Cressing is a village and civil parish in the Braintree district of Essex. The village is small with a strong rural character, characterised by small scale, low density houses surrounded by open countryside.

Cressing is the earliest British settlement of the Knights Templar and it is known today for its medieval barns nearby at Cressing Temple, said to be the two finest Templar barns in Europe. Within the parish there are a large number of archaeological sites, listed buildings, historic landscapes, Protected Lanes, and a designated Conservation Area in the village of Cressing itself. Cressing Train Station is to the west of the village; hourly train services run to Braintree or direct to London via Witham.

Our site is at the northern end of Cressing, adjacent to more recent development and close to much larger Braintree.

We’re working with the landowner, award-winning architecture and interior design practice Project Orange, and planning consultancy Rural Solutions on a proposal for five new Custom-Build homes.

The proposal

In Cressing, we want to create a legacy of high-quality, affordable, and sustainable homes.

Our proposal will:

  • Deliver five new Custom-Build homes which increase housing choice in the village and enable people to build beautiful, efficient homes that meet their needs
  • Be designed to be sympathetic and complimentary to the existing rich character of Cressing and wider Essex
  • Enhance existing hedgerows and introduce new native species increasing local biodiversity
  • Improve drainage
  • Respond to the climate emergency with environmentally sustainable new homes and landscape.

Each plot offers three or four ground floor and first floor layouts, including extension options. Purchasers will also be able to choose from range of external material and internal specification choices for items such as bathrooms, kitchens, internal doors, fixtures and fittings, and heating and sustainability options.
